THE BIGGER PICTURE
It has been a memorable season for Die Werkself, who lifted the Bundesliga title for the first time in the club's history and could go on and finish the campaign with an unbeaten record. They had finished runners-up on four occasions in the span of six seasons around the turn of the century thus earning the infamous nickname 'Neverkusen', but that moniker will now be scrapped thanks to Alonso's stellar work.
